Former Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, has passed away. His death was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday, July 13, 2025, by his former spokesperson, Mallam Garba Shehu.

 

According to the statement, the former president died at a clinic in London, United Kingdom, where he had been receiving medical attention. He was 82 years old.

 

“The family of the former president has announced the passing of Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London. May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus,” Shehu wrote.

 

The announcement was also shared via the former president’s official X (formerly Twitter) account.

 

Further details regarding the cause of death have not yet been disclosed. Tributes have begun pouring in from political figures, dignitaries, and citizens across the country.

 

Buhari served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023.
