Nigerian musician star, Davido, has sparked political speculations following his lyrics in his latest single which appears to confirm his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke’s imminent defection to the All Progressive Congress, APC.

Rumors that Adeleke is planning to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the APC ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial election in the state began to circulate last month, after Davido and governor Adeleke's visit to President Bola Tinubu for a private meeting at his Lagos residence.

The singer appeared to confirm the planned defection in his newly released single title “From Umbrella To Broom” (meaning from PDP to APC) . Davido explained that the political shift is for the benefit of the state,adding that Governor Ademola's defection to APC, will move the state forward.

Davido in the song said, “New broom go sweep better. Ẹtan abẹla si ìjọba wa. From umbrella to the broom. Adegbe adafa, alagbada alefa.

“Eyan marun, mefa, kilode ta n suffer. New broom go sweep better. Them tori us propaganda from January to December we no gbadun NEPA. So all of our youths wan go America,”

This means (why are we suffering when the new broom can sweep better).
