TikTok has deleted more than 3.6 million videos posted by Nigerian users between January and March 2025 for breaching its community guidelines, the company revealed in its Q1 2025 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report.

The figure marks a significant 50% increase from the 2.4 million videos removed in the last quarter of 2024, signaling a tougher crackdown on content violations within the Nigerian TikTok space.

TikTok said 98.4% of the offending content was proactively identified and removed before it was reported by users. Furthermore, 92.1% of these takedowns occurred within 24 hours of posting, highlighting the platform’s increasing efficiency in moderating harmful or inappropriate content.

The report also disclosed that in March 2025, TikTok dismantled a covert influence operation targeting West Africa, removing 129 accounts linked to coordinated inauthentic behavior.

Globally, TikTok took down over 211 million videos in Q1 2025, up from 153 million in the previous quarter. Of these, more than 184 million were removed through automated systems, pushing the platform’s proactive detection rate to 99%.

In its ongoing fight against spam and fake engagement, TikTok also removed 44.7 million comments generated by fake accounts during the same period.

“We remain vigilant in our efforts to detect external threats and safeguard the platform from fake accounts and engagement,” the company said. “While these threats persistently probe and attack our systems, we are committed to promptly identifying and removing content or accounts that seek to artificially boost popularity on our platform.”

The latest report reflects TikTok’s continued investment in content moderation and platform integrity, as it navigates growing scrutiny over digital safety and misinformation globally.
