Renowned Nollywood actress and producer, Mary Remmy Njoku, has called on the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to urgently investigate the quality of medications sold in Nigeria.

In a post shared on Instagram, Njoku recounted a recent bout of food poisoning on a film set. She revealed that despite taking Imodium, an anti-diarrheal drug purchased from a popular pharmacy chain in Nigeria for three days, her condition didn’t improve. However, a tablet of the same medication sourced abroad and given to her by her husband provided relief within minutes.

“This isn’t the first time I’ve noticed a difference,” she said. “What exactly are we being sold in Nigeria? This is a public health risk.”

Njoku urged NAFDAC to take the matter seriously, stressing that the circulation of substandard or counterfeit drugs poses a grave danger to Nigerians.
