Combined security operatives have rescued five kidnap victims in separate operations across Anambra State, according to police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga.
Three victims were rescued on Tuesday by police divisions in Nimo and Nteje, in collaboration with local vigilantes. One suspect, described as a known terrorist and member of a proscribed separatist group, was arrested with a pump-action gun and a dagger. He reportedly confessed to working as a photographer for the group.
Later that evening, two female victims were rescued from a forest between Oraukwu and Nimo following a tip-off. Police say they will undergo medical and psychological evaluations before reuniting with their families.
In a related operation on Monday, police killed two armed suspects during a shootout in Nteje while responding to a distress call.
