Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s deviation from its core values.
In a letter dated July 14, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of his Ward in Jada Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Atiku stated that the party’s current trajectory no longer aligns with the ideals it was built on.
“It is with a heavy heart that I resign, recognizing the irreconcilable differences that have emerged,” he wrote.
Atiku, a founding member of the PDP, expressed gratitude for the opportunities the party offered him, including serving two terms as Nigeria’s Vice President and contesting for president twice under its platform.
He is currently a key figure in the emerging opposition coalition.
“I wish the Party and its leadership all the best in the future,” he added.
