The Federal Ministry of Environment has issued a flood alert for several northern states, warning that heavy rainfall between July 16 and July 20, 2025, may lead to serious flooding in vulnerable areas.
The warning was contained in a flood prediction notice issued by the National Flood Early Warning Center and signed by Usman Abdullahi Bokani, Director of Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management.
According to the notice, the high-risk states include Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Adamawa, Plateau, and Zamfara.
In Kano State, specific areas expected to be affected include Kunchi, Kano, Gezawa, Wudil, Bebeji, Sumaila, and Tudun Wada.
In Jigawa, the warning covers Miga, Gwaram, Diginsa, Ringim, and Dutse.
Daura in Katsina, as well as Gusau and Bungudu in Zamfara, are also listed among flood-prone locations.
