Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has extended financial support to 8,225 secondary school girls across the state as part of efforts to reduce dropout rates and promote girls’ education.

This was disclosed in a statement on Wednesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris.

According to the statement, each beneficiary received N40,000 for the first academic term. An additional N10,000 will be provided for the second and third terms, bringing the total support per student to N60,000 per school year.

Governor Lawal approved a total disbursement of N322 million for this first batch, with plans underway to reach more girls in subsequent phases.

The initiative is being implemented through two key projects:

  • Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL)
  • Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE)

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to education, inclusion, and gender equity, adding that empowering girls through education remains central to Zamfara’s development strategy.
