Grammy-winning Nigerian artist, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has revealed that he once felt “more Jamaican” than Nigerian due to his environment and musical influences while living in the UK.
Speaking in a recent interview with Capital Xtra London, Burna Boy shared that during his time in Brixton, he was surrounded mostly by Jamaicans and Caribbeans, which shaped his identity at the time.
The Afrofusion star added that he naturally embraced the culture and music around him, which heavily influenced his sound, especially reggae and dancehall.
Burna Boy, who once dated British-Jamaican rapper Stefflon Don, has long expressed his admiration for Jamaican culture, previously describing the island as a second home.
