Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has paid an emotional tribute to his late son, Ifeanyi David Adedeji Adeleke, nearly three years after his untimely passing.
In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), the singer simply wrote:
“Ifeanyi David Adedeji Adeleke RIP LEGEND !!”
Ifeanyi tragically died on October 31, 2022, after drowning in a swimming pool at the family’s residence in Banana Island, Lagos. At the time of the incident, both Davido and Ifeanyi’s mother, Chioma Rowland, were reportedly not at home.
The Lagos State Police Command later confirmed the cause of death as drowning, based on autopsy results. Eight domestic staff members were detained for questioning, with two placed under further investigation to determine their level of responsibility in the tragic incident.
The heartbreaking news sparked a wave of grief and support from across Nigeria and beyond. Public figures including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, international rapper Meek Mill, American artist Bia, and former Super Eagles star Victor Moses all sent messages of condolence and solidarity. Many described the loss of a child as an unimaginable pain no parent should ever endure.
Following the tragedy, Davido took a break from public engagements and social media. He later returned to the spotlight in 2023 with the release of his critically acclaimed album, “Timeless,” which many believe was a reflection of his personal journey through grief and healing.
Later that same year, Davido and Chioma welcomed a set of twins in the United States, a moment many fans and supporters described as a divine gift and symbol of restoration.
