Residents across Lagos State and parts of Ogun State are set to experience a 25-day power outage beginning Monday, July 28, as announced by power distribution companies. The scheduled disruption, which will last through August 21, 2025, is due to critical maintenance work by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED) confirmed that electricity supply will be cut off daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the maintenance window. The outage will affect the entire Lagos State and parts of Ogun, including Sagamu, Ogijo, Abeokuta, and surrounding areas.

Speaking on TVC News, ANED CEO Sunday Oduntan explained that the shutdown is necessary for safety as the TCN undertakes an upgrade on its 330kV Omotosho-Ikeja West transmission line.

According to the TCN, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Independent System Operator have approved the infrastructure upgrade, which involves the installation of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) fibre cables. This upgrade will improve the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, enabling real-time monitoring and efficient grid management.

While power will be temporarily restored after each day’s work, other transmission circuits will remain in operation to minimize the overall impact on supply.

In official statements, both Ikeja Electric and Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) notified customers of potential intermittent outages and load shedding across their networks during the maintenance period.

“We sincerely regret the inconvenience this may cause and assure our customers that normalcy will be restored once the upgrade is complete,” Ikeja Electric said in a notice.

Oduntan also reassured customers that the disruption is temporary and aimed at long-term improvement of power supply infrastructure in the region.
