Abubakar Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President and 2023 PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

The defection was announced on Thursday at the National Assembly, Abuja, where Abubakar, popularly known as “Abba,” urged members of his former political structure, the Haske Atiku Organisation, to join the APC and mobilise support for Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

APC leaders welcomed him, describing the move as symbolic and strategic, reflecting a new phase of “politics without borders.” Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin and APC National Vice Chairman (North-East) Mustapha Salihu praised Abubakar’s decision as principled and based on the Tinubu administration’s policies and ideology rather than personal or family considerations.
