President Bola Tinubu has approved the procurement of new equipment for the armed forces and security agencies to strengthen operations against terrorism and banditry across Nigeria.
The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, disclosed this after a nearly two-hour security briefing at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. He said the meeting, which included all service chiefs and the new Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, was convened to update the President on recent attacks on military formations, particularly in Borno State.
Musa assured Nigerians that security forces were gaining the upper hand, stressing that insurgents and bandits were suffering heavier casualties, despite regrettable losses among military personnel.
He attributed the spike in attacks to the Ramadan period and confirmed that strategies had been adjusted, with key insurgent positions reclaimed and commanders neutralized.
