The Lagos State Government has directed building owners, developers, and facility managers to register and certify all elevators in their premises or risk having them shut down.
Director-General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola, said enforcement against uncertified elevators will begin after March 31, 2026.
He explained that the directive is aimed at preventing accidents amid rising high-rise developments in the state.
The commission warned that buildings that fail to comply may have their elevators decommissioned and premises sealed, while an online platform has been introduced to help property owners register and schedule safety inspections.
