The Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced a temporary power outage affecting parts of Ibadan, Oyo State, following the shutdown of a 100MVA 132/33kV transformer at the Ayede Transmission Substation for annual preventive maintenance.

In a statement signed by its General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, and shared on X on Tuesday, TCN said the maintenance exercise would run from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The statement reads, “The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) hereby notifies the public of scheduled maintenance of one of its 100MVA 132/33kV power transformers at the Ayede Transmission Substation on Tuesday, May 5 , 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.”

Mbah said the exercise became necessary to keep the facility in optimal condition.

The maintenance exercise will enable TCN engineers carry out routine checks on the transformer to ensure continued optimal performance”

As a result, the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company would be unable to supply electricity to customers in the Express, Industrial, and Oluyole areas during the stated period.

“Consequently, IBEDC will be unable to off-take electricity for its customers in Express, Industrial, and Oluyole areas today alone, within the stated period.”

The transmission company apologised for any inconvenience the shutdown may cause electricity consumers in the affected areas.
