The Federal Government has begun screening Nigerians in South Africa who wish to return home amid renewed xenophobic tensions in the country.

The exercise, which started at the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria, is part of a planned evacuation covering an estimated 2,000 to 4,000 citizens.

Officials say about 400 Nigerians are currently being processed in the first phase as authorities work to ensure a safe and orderly return.
