The Nigerian Railway Corporation is considering an upward review of passenger and freight fares as rising operational costs put pressure on its finances.

Officials say increasing expenses on fuel, maintenance, security and spare parts have made the current tariff structure difficult to sustain, with diesel costs alone exceeding ₦1.2 billion in April.

The corporation, however, says it remains committed to affordable rail transport while reviewing options to ensure operational sustainability.
