The Presidency says discussions on the creation of state police have reached an advanced stage, with constitutional amendments expected to be presented soon.

Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, said consultations involving federal and state stakeholders have produced a framework aimed at improving security across the country.  

According to officials, the proposal seeks to strengthen local policing and improve intelligence gathering in communities facing security challenges.

The government says legal and constitutional processes are now being finalized before the initiative is formally implemented.
