The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, says the proposed State Police Bill contains adequate constitutional safeguards to prevent political abuse and ensure accountability.
Speaking in Abuja during a meeting with European Union officials, Kalu said the bill includes strong oversight measures to prevent state governors from using state police for political purposes.
He added that decentralized policing is necessary to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture, while addressing concerns over possible misuse through constitutional checks.
