The Federal Government has directed regulatory agencies to suspend the implementation and enforcement of newly introduced regulations affecting internet platforms, online intermediaries and other digital economy issues pending the development of a harmonised national policy framework.
Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, said the directive followed consultations with key regulatory agencies and is aimed at ensuring regulatory certainty while a coordinated framework is developed.
The government said the move reflects the need for stronger policy coordination as emerging technologies such as digital platforms, artificial intelligence, online safety and data governance increasingly overlap across regulatory mandates.
