Lagos State has expanded its Strategic Transport Master Plan to include 11 rail lines and one monorail as part of efforts to develop a wider urban mass transit network.
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, LAMATA, said the expansion informed the planned establishment of a Railway Training Centre in partnership with China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation to develop skilled manpower for the growing rail system.
LAMATA Managing Director, Abimbola Akinajo, said the initiative will reduce reliance on foreign expertise, create jobs and ensure Nigerians are trained to operate and maintain the state’s expanding rail infrastructure.
