The Ogun State Government has warned market leaders and traders to stop indiscriminate waste disposal or risk the closure of their markets for violating environmental sanitation laws.
The warning follows concerns over growing heaps of refuse and open defecation along sections of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, including Mowe, Ibafo and Magboro, where residents blamed poor enforcement of sanitation regulations.
The Managing Director of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority, Farouk Akintunde, said markets must use approved waste disposal channels, warning that any market found dumping refuse illegally would be shut down to protect public health.
