Uruguay have appointed former striker Diego Forlán as interim head coach following Marcelo Bielsa’s resignation after the team’s group-stage exit at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 47-year-old has signed a deal until March 2027 and will combine the role with his duties as coach of Uruguay’s Under-20 team.
Forlán, a former Uruguay captain and 2010 World Cup Golden Ball winner, has been tasked with rebuilding the national team after a disappointing World Cup campaign.
