Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged Nigerians to study legislation before criticising the National Assembly, saying many public comments on lawmakers’ activities are made without understanding the laws passed.

Speaking at the opening of the 2026 National Assembly Open Week in Abuja, Akpabio described the 10th Assembly as the most peaceful and productive since 1999, while defending its support for key national reforms and the Tinubu administration’s economic policies.

Meanwhile, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, disclosed that the House has received 2,747 bills, passed 363, and secured presidential assent for 72 within three years.

He also announced that the House will prioritise the Executive’s State Police Bill for consideration.
