Kenya’s government has extended a reduction in Value Added Tax on petroleum products for another three months to mid-October, in a bid to protect households and businesses from rising global energy prices.

Energy Minister Opiyo Wandayi said the government will also provide a 945 million shilling subsidy to maintain current fuel prices during the July-August pricing period.

Kenya had earlier reduced VAT on fuel from 16 per cent to 8 per cent after global crude oil prices surged, with authorities assuring citizens that fuel supplies remain stable despite ongoing international tensions.
