Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, has urged Nigerian doctors and other medical professionals to resist emigrating, saying major developments are underway in the country’s healthcare sector.

In a post on his verified X account, Abayomi called on healthcare workers at home and abroad to support efforts to build what he described as an “iconic” health system, urging those who have left to consider returning.

His appeal comes amid growing concerns over the migration of Nigerian doctors, with experts warning that the loss of thousands of medical professionals has worsened manpower shortages and increased pressure on the country’s healthcare system.
