The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, has commended Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for approving and commencing payment of the Professional Allowance Table and specialist allowance for medical doctors in the state.
The NMA Chairman in Ogun State, Luqman Ogunjimi, said the move would improve doctors’ welfare, boost morale and enhance healthcare delivery. He added that the specialist allowance took effect from July.
However, the association raised concerns over the shortage of medical personnel, revealing that about 1,200 doctors currently serve an estimated nine million residents in Ogun State, and called for increased recruitment to bridge the gap.
