UEFA has threatened to boycott all FIFA competitions if FIFA President Gianni Infantino proceeds with plans to sell a stake in the World Cup to private investors.
Following an emergency meeting of its 55 member associations, UEFA unanimously rejected the proposal, insisting the World Cup is “not for sale” and warning that private ownership would put commercial interests ahead of the future of football.
The European football body said no UEFA national team would participate in FIFA competitions unless the proposal is completely withdrawn and FIFA guarantees its tournaments will never be opened to private ownership.
