A former gang leader, Duane “Keffe D” Davis, is going on trial in Las Vegas over the 1996 murder of American rapper Tupac Shakur.

Prosecutors allege that Davis ordered the killing and supplied the gun used in the drive-by shooting that claimed Shakur’s life at the age of 25.

He denies the allegations and faces life imprisonment without parole if convicted.

The trial is expected to last about a month and will revisit the bitter rivalry between rival hip-hop groups at the time.

The murder has remained one of the United States’ most prominent unsolved cases for nearly three decades.
