The Lagos State Government says the sharp increase in the cost of buses has delayed the replacement of vehicles burnt during the 2020 #EndSARS protests.

The Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, said the buses cost about 80 million naira each when they were purchased but now cost around 280 million naira.

He said the inability to replace all the affected buses has contributed to the current shortage of BRT vehicles and increased pressure on public transportation.

Hamzat said the state is looking to increase private-sector participation in public transport, with government potentially subsidising fares to make commuting more affordable.
