Cancer patients in Nigeria requiring radiotherapy will now receive up to 400-thousand naira in financial support under a new cost-sharing programme by the National Health Insurance Authority, NHIA.
NHIA Director-General, Dr Kelechi Ohiri, who disclosed this, said eligible patients will get a 50 per cent reduction in radiotherapy costs, with the authority contributing up to 400-thousand naira per patient.
Ohiri said the NHIA is also expanding cancer insurance coverage to include diagnostic tests, selected surgeries and chemotherapy drugs, while more treatment centres are being accredited to improve access to cancer care.
