Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, says the future of investment in Africa will increasingly depend on cities with strong infrastructure, effective governance and an enabling environment for businesses.

Sanwo-Olu stated this in Washington, DC, where he received the 2026 Global Transformation and Good Governance Prize.

Speaking on “Lagos and the Future of African Investment,” the governor highlighted the state’s economy, technology ecosystem, infrastructure and transport projects as evidence of its growing investment potential.

He said Lagos contributes more than a quarter of Nigeria’s economic output and is targeting a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2052, while urging investors to look beyond Africa as a single market and focus on individual cities with the capacity to provide infrastructure, attract businesses and create economic opportunities.
