Nigeria has assumed the chairmanship of the United Nations General Assembly’s Fifth Committee, which oversees the organisation’s budget and administrative affairs.
Nigeria’s UN envoy, Jimoh Ibrahim, pledged to promote transparency, accountability and administrative reforms, insisting that every dollar spent by the UN must be properly accounted for and justified.
Ibrahim said Nigeria would use the position to promote consultation and consensus among the 193 member states, while supporting efforts to improve the UN’s financial sustainability, institutional efficiency and overall effectiveness.
