Workers protesting the proposed concession of King’s College, Lagos, have shut the Federal Ministry of Education headquarters in Abuja, blocking the Minister of State, Suwaiba Ahmad, and Acting Permanent Secretary, Folake Olatunji-David, from accessing their offices.

The protesters, under the Joint Council of four staff unions, said the concession could pave the way for similar moves in other federal unity schools.

They demanded that King’s College remain under public management and raised concerns over job security and staff welfare.

The unions vowed to sustain the shutdown and halt activities in unity schools nationwide if the concession is not reversed while a meeting between the recognised union leadership and Education Minister Tunji Alausa has been scheduled for today at 4pm.
