The Akwa Ibom State Government says it has paid over 90 billion naira out of 111 billion naira in inherited gratuity liabilities owed retired public servants.
The Head of Civil Service, Elsie Peters, disclosed this in Uyo during a media briefing to mark the 2026 Public Service Day, saying the government remains committed to clearing the outstanding balance.
Peters said the administration has also maintained regular salaries, implemented the 80-thousand-naira minimum wage and recruited or approved about 7,069 workers to strengthen the state’s public service.
