The Ondo State Government has begun reviewing regulations on the preparation, production, distribution and sale of locally made herbal and alcoholic products, following the deaths of 48 people in parts of the state.

The Attorney-General, Olukayode Ajulo, said a coroner’s inquest had also been requested to determine the immediate and remote causes of the deaths.

NAFDAC said preliminary tests detected high levels of methanol in suspected drinks, with 182 cases recorded and five victims reportedly blinded.

Ajulo said the government would prosecute anyone found culpable, while ensuring due process.

He also assured that the review would strengthen regulation and help prevent a recurrence of the incident.
