Ondo State Attorney General, Olukayode Ajulo, has called for an end to the payment of autopsy fees by families of suspected homicide victims.

Ajulo, who said families should not bear the cost of determining the cause of death in suspicious or potentially criminal cases, added that autopsies are crucial to homicide investigations and failure to conduct examinations could create evidentiary gaps and weaken the prosecution of suspected murder cases.

The Attorney General urged closer coordination among the police, medical practitioners and judiciary to ensure prompt autopsies and proper transmission of medical reports.

He also called for government funding of medico-legal examinations in suspected criminal cases.
