The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi, has released 14 inmates from the Port Harcourt Maximum Security Custodial Centre as part of a jail delivery exercise.
The CJ said those freed included inmates who had spent longer than the period they would have served if convicted, as well as those whose trials had stalled due to delays by security agencies or the judiciary.
Chibuzor-Amadi said the exercise also marked the opening of the 2026/2027 legal year, urging the freed inmates to turn over a new leaf and avoid being used for political violence.
