NIGER GOVERNOR INAUGURATES PANEL TO PROBE DEATHS OF 37 NSCDC DETAINEES

Niger State Governor Umaru Bago has inaugurated a nine-member Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the deaths of 37 persons in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.

The commission, inaugurated in Minna and chaired by Justice Muhammad S.A. Muhammad, will investigate the circumstances of the arrests, detention, treatment and deaths of the victims, including relevant medical and forensic evidence.

It will also examine accountability and make recommendations.

Governor Bago gave the commission four weeks to complete its assignment and submit its report.
