President Bola Tinubu has demanded at least two permanent seats for Africa on the United Nations Security Council, with veto powers, saying the current structure no longer reflects global realities.

Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the 81st UN General Assembly in New York, also called for five non-permanent seats for Africa.

He said the demand aligns with the Ezulwini Consensus and Sirte Declaration.

The President also called for reforms to the global financial system, greater climate financing and responsible use of artificial intelligence.

He said Nigeria would continue supporting peacekeeping, regional trade, industrialisation and sustainable development across Africa.
