The House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee will today and tomorrow question officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, over alleged financial breaches totalling more than 802.19 billion naira.

The allegations are contained in Auditor-General reports covering 2021 to 2023, where about 514 billion naira in queries were raised against NNPCL, including alleged irregular deductions from crude oil sales.

INEC faces queries of about 288.19 billion naira over procurement, contractor payments and statutory deductions.

The committee, chaired by Bamidele Salam, is expected to demand documents and explanations from the agencies.

The committee noted that audit queries do not by themselves establish wrongdoing, as the affected agencies have the opportunity to respond.
