The Federal Government has cleared inherited pension liabilities dating back to 2007 through a 758-billion-naira intervention bond, benefiting 957,045 pensioners nationwide.
Director-General of the National Pension Commission, PenCom, Omolola Oloworaran, announced this at the 2026 PenCom Media Conference in Lagos, saying the payment ended years of delayed pension obligations.
She added that PenCom had introduced a Zero Waiting Time Policy, cutting benefit processing from as long as 21 months to 48 hours.
The commission also announced a healthcare programme for 30,000 low-income retirees and plans to expand the Micro Pension Plan to informal workers.
