The House of Representatives Committee on Host Communities has called for increased funding for the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project, HYPREP, to complete outstanding projects under the Ogoni cleanup.

Committee Chairman, Dumnamene Dekor, made the call after a two-day inspection of HYPREP project sites in Ogoniland, Rivers State, saying the initial funding had been exhausted and more resources were needed, especially for complex sites.

Dekor also disclosed that the committee was working on a bill to extend environmental cleanup efforts to other oil-polluted communities across the Niger Delta.
