President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to amend Nigeria’s law on the transfer of convicted offenders to enable the country to implement prisoner-transfer agreements with non-Commonwealth nations.
The proposed 2026 amendment bill was transmitted to the Senate, with the letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during yesterday’s plenary.
Tinubu urged lawmakers to expedite its consideration, saying the amendment would empower the President to extend the law to countries with which Nigeria has relevant agreements through an order published in the Federal Gazette.
