The Ogun State Government has reconstituted the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council, AIAC, declaring that the purported Adele Oba Awujale group has no legal or customary recognition.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat, said the AIAC remains the only legally recognised body authorised to manage the administrative and traditional affairs of Ijebuland pending the appointment of a new Awujale.

He cited a subsisting Ogun State High Court consent judgment in support of the council’s authority.

The reconstituted council is chaired by the Olisa of Ijebu-Ode, Chief Rasheed Adesanya, with Chief Chris Okunowo as Secretary.

The government warned former members against operating an alternative body and urged all parties to respect the law and maintain peace during the succession process.
