The Presidency has refuted reports linking Vice President Kashim Shettima’s recent comments to the political situation in Rivers State.
In a statement on Friday, Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), described the media reports as a “gross misrepresentation” of Shettima’s remarks at a book launch in Abuja.
Shettima, speaking at the public presentation of OPL 245: The Inside Story of the $1.3 Billion Oil Block by former AGF Mohammed Bello Adoke, referenced an attempt to remove him as Borno governor during the Jonathan administration.
Nkwocha clarified that the VP’s comments were historical and aimed at acknowledging Adoke’s past role, not a commentary on current events.
He dismissed claims that Shettima’s remarks were related to the recent state of emergency or the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, stressing that President Bola Tinubu did not remove Fubara but acted constitutionally in response to political instability in Rivers.
“All actions taken, including the suspension and declaration of emergency, were in line with Section 305 of the Constitution,” the statement added.
