President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima led a high-powered delegation to Daura, Katsina State, on Tuesday to pay final respects to former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died in London on Sunday, July 13.

The late former military Head of State and two-term civilian President was buried in his hometown according to Islamic rites, with global dignitaries and top Nigerian officials in attendance.

Tinubu personally received Buhari’s remains, draped in the national flag, at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport, Katsina, shortly after 2 p.m. The Presidential jet, which had conveyed Buhari during his tenure, flew his body from London that morning.

The funeral attracted prominent figures including Guinea-Bissau’s President Umaro Sissoco Embaló, Niger Republic’s Prime Minister Ali Zeine, and former Nigerien President Issoufou Mahamadou.

Former Presidents, Vice Presidents Yemi Osinbajo and Atiku Abubakar, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, service chiefs, ministers, governors from over 20 states, and key private sector leaders such as Aliko Dangote and Dahiru Mangal were present.

A military honour guard and a joint pallbearer team of senior officers escorted the casket, while a solemn hymn, “God Be With You Till We Meet Again”, played.

President Tinubu, Shettima, and other dignitaries joined the funeral procession as Buhari’s remains were transported to Daura for final interment.

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency recorded over 130 aircraft movements in Katsina within 48 hours, underscoring the scale of national and international turnout.
