The Nigeria Police Force has rescued 31 kidnapped victims in two separate operations in Taraba and Edo States, according to a statement released Friday by Force PRO, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
In Edo State, police operatives responded swiftly to a kidnapping incident along the Fugar-Agenebode road in Etsako East LGA on Friday, July 11, where gunmen ambushed commuters, killing two and abducting several others. A joint operation by police and local vigilantes tracked the attackers to Obe Hill near Ajaokuta, engaged them in a gunfight, and successfully rescued 14 victims.
In a separate operation on Saturday, July 12, Taraba police operatives responded to a distress call following the abduction of 17 passengers traveling in a white Toyota bus from Enugu to Yola. The ambush occurred near Federal University Wukari. On sighting security forces, the suspects fled, abandoning all 17 victims unhurt.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, praised the operatives for their swift response and bravery, stating the operations underscore the police’s strengthened commitment to public safety and national security.
