The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board has concluded an annual free health check for its staff members.

The health check, conducted for over 300 staff members, according to a Friday statement signed by the Deputy Director, Information, LASUBEB, Abe Adunola, commenced on Tuesday, July 22 and concluded on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, featuring blood pressure check, glucose screening, and full blood count testing.

The education board noted that the event was a part of LASUBEB’s broader strategy to promote and sustain the well-being of staff within the basic education sector.

As part of the activities, the workers also participated in a health awareness walk on the final day, reinforcing the importance of physical fitness and overall wellness.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of LASUBEB, Dr. Hakeem Shittu, emphasised that the event’s theme, “Healthy Blood, Healthy Life, Why Blood Count Matters,” was a vital call to action.

“This year’s focus on blood count aims to demystify its crucial role in modern healthcare. Regular blood tests are among the most effective tools in early detection and prevention of serious ailments such as anaemia, infections, immune system disorders, and even blood cancers,” Shittu stated.

He reiterated that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration remained committed to the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of the workforce in Lagos State, especially within the basic education sector.

Too often, we wait until symptoms become severe before seeking help,” he said.

“But prevention is not to be denied. What flows through us sustains our life. We must commit to routine health checks as part of our daily wellness culture.”

A medical consultant from Afriglobal Medicare Limited, Dr. John Kolawole, educated the staff members on the importance of the Full Blood Count as a diagnostic tool and stressed that many life-threatening conditions could be detected early through routine screening.

He advised that maintaining healthy blood involved a combination of lifestyle choices, including eating iron-rich foods, staying physically active, managing stress effectively, and undergoing regular medical check-ups.
