The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting healthy living through the Keep Fit Lagos programme, which held its eighth edition on Saturday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.

The monthly fitness event, aimed at encouraging physical and mental wellness, drew participants of all ages who engaged in aerobic exercises led by professional fitness instructors.

Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports, Damilare Orimoloye, who spoke at the event, praised the turnout and reiterated the state government’s dedication to sustaining the programme across all 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas in the state.

“This initiative was created to promote physical and mental wellness among Lagosians and to encourage them to adopt a healthy lifestyle. We are pleased with the participation and will continue to expand its reach,” Orimoloye said.

Before the start of the fitness sessions, participants had access to free health screenings, with professionals conducting vital checks to help attendees assess their medical status and encourage health-conscious living.

In his remarks, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports Marketing and Administration, Onaopepo Adu, noted that the programme has reawakened residents’ interest in physical fitness and overall well-being.

“This has ignited a renewed interest in Lagosians to be more intentional about their health and wellness. It is not just about exercise; it’s about creating a culture of healthy living,” Adu stated.

Fitness expert Maje Ayida also commended the initiative, expressing satisfaction with the growing enthusiasm among residents regarding physical and mental wellness.

The next edition of the programme is scheduled to be held in Ikorodu—a first-time venue—as the initiative continues its rotation across the five divisions of Lagos State.
